For most braid installs, start with Freetress Braid 301 3X in 34 inches (Search Amazon for Freetress 3X Braid 301 34 inch ). Freetress spells out both lengths on its product page, and it lists the hair as pre-stretched, flame retardant, hot-water setting and tangle free. For knotless braids, Janet Collection’s Nala Tress 3X EZ Split comes pre-sectioned (Search Amazon for Janet Collection Nala Tress 3X EZ Split Pre-Stretched 48 inch ). Outre X-Pression is the 100% Kanekalon pick with pre-layered ends (Search Amazon for Outre X-Pression Pre-Stretched Braid 52 inch 3X ). Model Model’s Glance Formation braid has a light yaky texture (Search Amazon for Model Model Glance 3X Formation Natural Touch Braid 30 inch ). Harlem125’s Kima EZ Twin is made for crochet styles (Search Amazon for Harlem125 Kima EZ Twin Professional ).
Every product link on this page is an Amazon search. For all five, the Amazon listings we found are sold by independent sellers rather than by Amazon or the brand, so check the length, pack count and color on the listing before you buy. Nobody at Crown Care Daily has used these products. The specs come from each maker’s product page or the package photo on that page, and any itch, tangle or flame claims are the makers’ own.

Before you buy: length, weight and tension
Longer isn’t always better. The American Academy of Dermatology lists tightly braided hair and extensions among the styles that can cause traction alopecia when they’re too tight. It recommends that you “keep braids/locs short, because longer hair is heavier and pulls more,” choose thicker braids, loosen braids around the hairline, and wear braids “for no longer than 6-8 weeks.” The AAD also says, “If your hairstyle feels painful, the style is too tight.” If you notice hair loss, the AAD says it’s never too early to see a board-certified dermatologist.
So buy the length you need for the style, not the longest pack on the shelf. Our braid style guide compares crochet, feed-in and box braids by root weight and upkeep.
1. Freetress Braid 301 3X 34": best overall
Freetress calls Braid 301 “quick & easy, ready to install.” The maker lists four features for the 34-inch pack: pre-stretched, flame retardant, hot-water setting and tangle free. It’s also the clearest about length. Freetress gives a “True Length: 68”” and an “Actual Length: 34”,” so you know the 34 inches is the folded measurement. The color range runs from 1 and 1B through browns, blondes, copper and ginger to ombré and two-tone shades.
Freetress sells the same line in a 28-inch 3X pack that it describes as a “FULL 240 grams of PRE-STRETCHED hair.” That’s the only listing in this group that gives a weight.
Skip it if: you want the fiber named on the page. Freetress doesn’t list it.
2. Janet Collection Nala Tress 3X EZ Split Pre-Stretched 48": best for knotless braids
The package photo on Janet Collection’s product page labels this hair “Pre-Sectioned,” “Pre-Stretched” and “Knotless,” in “100% Kanekalon” with a flame-retardant mark. The pack also says “No tangle, Pre-divided hair!” Pre-divided means less separating of pieces by hand before each braid. Janet Collection lists solid shades from 1 to 613, plus metal gray and two-tone (OET) shades.
Janet sells EZ Split in other lengths and wave patterns as separate products, so check that the listing says 48 inches if that’s the length you want.
Skip it if: you want the maker to say whether 48 inches is the folded or full length. The page doesn’t.

3. Outre X-Pression Pre-Stretched Braid 3X: best classic Kanekalon braid
Outre titles this product “X-Pression Pre-Stretched Braid - 100% Kanekalon.” The package shown on its page is the 3X Ultra Braid in 52 inches, labeled “Pre-Stretched” and “Pre-Layered.” Outre describes X-Pression as “made with the finest 100% Kanekalon fibers” and “known for its superior braiding & styling capabilities.” That’s the maker’s description.
Amazon sellers list X-Pression pre-stretched packs in more than one length, so match the inches and the 3X label to the pack you want.
Skip it if: you want itch, tangle or heat-setting details. Outre’s page doesn’t list them.

4. Model Model Glance 3X Formation Natural Touch Braid 30": best for blending with natural hair
Model Model says this braid “features full-volume and a light yaky texture that you can blend with your own natural hair.” The maker calls it “easy-on-hands” and says it “features non-flammable & hot-water setting quality without tangling and itching.” Those are Model Model’s claims. It has one of the widest color ranges here, including bright shades and tinsel blends.
The page doesn’t say whether 30 inches is folded or full. For its 4X Formation 26-inch pack, Model Model lists “Full length: 52” / Half (folded) length 26"," and it says that braid “dips well in hot water to create beautiful curls.”
Skip it if: you want a straight, sleek finish. Model Model describes this one as yaky.

5. Harlem125 Kima EZ Twin Professional: best for crochet styles
Harlem125 lists Kima EZ Twin Professional as “Spetra Fiber – Antibacterial, Water Repellent” and “Itchless / Easy Braiding / Ready to Use!” It says the hair is for “the hottest braiding method, Crochet,” and that “the pre-stretched end makes the hair look more natural & sophisticated.” The itchless and antibacterial wording is the maker’s claim. Harlem125 doesn’t explain how it backs that up.
The product page’s two length lists don’t match, so this page doesn’t list a length for it. Check the inches on the listing.
Skip it if: you’re doing individual box braids rather than crochet. Harlem125 pitches this one for crochet.
How to choose pre-stretched braiding hair
- Pick the style first. Pre-sectioned hair like Janet’s EZ Split suits knotless braids. Harlem125 pitches Kima EZ Twin for crochet. Classic box braids work with any straight pre-stretched pack.
- Check folded versus full length. Freetress and Model Model show that the named length can be the folded measurement. If a pack doesn’t say, ask the seller or your braider.
- Keep the length sensible. The AAD says longer braids are heavier and pull more. Choose the shortest length that gives you the style.
- Read the fiber line. Outre and Janet Collection name 100% Kanekalon. Harlem125 names Spetra fiber. Freetress and Model Model don’t name a fiber.
- Treat itch claims as marketing. “Itchless” and “without itching” are the makers’ words. If your scalp itches or flakes under braids, our scalp care guide for protective styles covers cleansing and scalp products for itch. For the base, see our lightweight braid moisturizers .

FAQ
Does braiding your hair help it grow?
None of these makers sells braiding hair as a growth product. The American Academy of Dermatology warns that tight braids can lead to traction alopecia, a type of hair loss. It recommends loosening braids around the hairline, choosing thicker braids, keeping them short and wearing them for no longer than 6 to 8 weeks.
Is the length on a braiding hair pack folded or full?
It depends on the maker, so check the pack. Freetress lists Braid 301 34 inch as 34 inches actual and 68 inches true length. Model Model lists its 4X Formation 26 inch braid as 26 inches folded and 52 inches full. Outre, Janet Collection and Harlem125 don’t say on the pages checked.
How many packs of braiding hair do you need?
None of the five makers publishes a pack count per style. It depends on braid size, length and how full you want the style, so ask your braider before you buy.
